Every blogger has a story to tell of how they got themselves involved in the world of blogging and Krupa’s story is worth a read.

From teaching high school kids to academic content creation to fashion and beauty, her multi faceted lifestyle add a lot of layers to her life.

Popularly known as Miss Kay, let’s dig deeper into the life of fashion and beauty blogger – Krupa from http://www.ishtyleawhile.com

  • Can you tell our readers about yourself and your blog?
Hey! My name is Krupa. I am basically a major in Biochemistry.  I started my career as a high school teacher and I was teaching chemistry. However I blog about beauty and fashion. My blog is called IshtyleAwhile.
  • Describe how did you first get involved into blogging? What inspired you to start your blog?
My colleagues at work encouraged me to start blogging. The world of makeup was not new to me at all. I was a dancer and so I used makeup a lot for stage shows. However when I started working as a school teacher, I needed to look more put together and that is how I started wearing makeup on a daily basis. Also I had to wear sari every day to work and I started looking online for different ways to accessorise it. I looked for different kinds of blouse designs etc. That is when I realized that there were very few blogs that catered to Indian wear and styling them. My colleagues were a bunch of very well dressed ladies and I took a lot of inspiration from them. Initially I wanted to feature their styles on the blog, but since they were camera shy, it ended up being just me.
  • Which genre and niche do you write on? What do you love most about blogging?
My blog niche is definitely styling Indian ethnic wear. Well that’s why I named my blog as “IshtyleAwhile. However after I started the blog I realized that fashion posts required a lot more work, so I started blogging about makeup and beauty as well.

I love blogging because it an outlet for my creativity. I have always been into creative writing. The blog combines my love for story telling with my love for makeup and fashion. It is truly the best of both worlds.
  • What is your blogging style and philosophy?
My blogging style is very casual. I write like I talk. It is very chit chatty and can sometimes go off topic before getting to the point. I keep my style of writing very simple. My blog posts definitely reflect my personality.
I didn’t plan a methodology to blog before starting. I never thought about domains and hosting and SEO or anything. I just wrote because I loved writing. Slowly over the years I started learning a lot more about the technical aspects of blogging.
  • Who according to you should take up blogging as a full time career?
I think that any blogger will agree with me that is pretty much a full time job. From planning to shooting, editing and compiling quality content, blogging takes up a huge chunk of time in a week.
I think the question should be whether a person is willing to look at blogging as their bread and butter. That is subjective. Each person’s opinion will vary. I am happy with just doing it out of passion and not as a career.
  • As a blogger, what aspects do you expect newbie bloggers to work upon?
Be yourselves. I think it is important for newbie bloggers to start looking at more specific niches than just general topics to blog about. Don’t let yourself get carried away by what everyone is doing. And most importantly do not compare yourself with others.
It is easy to look at numbers and get disheartened, but don’t.
If you produce good quality content and something different from what is already there, then you will succeed.
  • With more and more bloggers joining taking up blogging as a career, do you think blogging will become yet another rat race?
The world is a very competitive place. Everything becomes a rat race. What matters is whether you want to be a part of the race or not. I pulled myself out of the race some time ago and I am so much happier.
  • Can you name some of your favorite bloggers and explain why they are your favorites?
I follow a lot of blogs!!
If I had to name a few I guess I would say that Harine from CrazyforCosmetics is one of my favourite bloggers. I love her simple style of blogging. I have had the opportunity to meet her and shoot with her. We are definitely friends thanks to the blogosphere.
Other than that I love reading SindhuJP, she talks about lifestyle in general and about life as a bachelorette. I completely love that.
I Simply Love Makeup was one of the first blogs that I started following and continue to do so. I like the fact that Samyukta has maintained her individuality.
  • What do you find the most frustrating aspect of blogging?
Sometimes the lack of inspiration is what frustrates me the most.
  • Is blogging your profession or just a hobby?
Blogging is a hobby for me.
  • What do you do when you aren’t working on your blog?
I work on creating academic content. That is my profession. I also take tuitions because I love teaching.
When I am not working I enjoy reading fiction, I love dancing and I find cleaning and organizing my room to very therapeutic (yes yes clearly I have issues)
  • How frequently do you update your blog and are you satisfied with it?
I never had a schedule for posting initially. I used to just try and get two or three posts up in a week. However the past two months I have a proper schedule and have been posting on regular days. It has really made a difference not just to my page views but also I have started planning posts much in advance.
  • What was the most challenging moment in your blogging journey so far?
Learning how to add widgets and trying to redesign the blog to what it is currently was challenging. My programming knowledge is like zilch. I had to watch videos to learn how to add comment systems, and widgets and even how to change the size of the banner. There was a lot of trial and error and a LOT of learning that happened.
What is the biggest difference in your life post-blogging?
One of this biggest things that has changed is the way I shop for clothes. I only buy it if I know I can style it in multiple ways and more importantly, I shop only if I need to. Otherwise I try to re use pieces from my closet as much as possible.
  • Did you have any professional help or did you created the blog yourself?
My blog is completely and wholly my baby. The only thing that I took help for was buying a domain. My best friend helped me with that. I am currently on Blogger and am planning to move to WordPress and redesign the blog all on my own.
  • What’s your blog promotion strategy? How do you ensure you keep acquired new readers and how do you retain your existing reader base?
I use social media to some extent. Updates on Facebook, Twitter and of course Instagram. I am kind of addicted to Instagram.
Other than that I leave comments on other blogs and interacting with those bloggers. I also collaborate with bloggers so that their readers get to know about me and my readers get to know about them.
Blogger events are also a great way to interact with other bloggers.
Oh!  I should also mention that my parents have taken it upon themselves to promote my blog to whomever they meet. It is really damn cute, and quite effective except trying to explain a “beauty blog” to the older generation is a bit difficult.
  • What message would you like to give to the bloggers of the world?
Blogging is a way of bringing people together. I think we should be helping each other come up not spreading hate. Of late there is a lot of plagiarism that is seen. Ideas are copied, designs are stolen. I don’t see a need for this kind of negativity. So let us all hold hands and create a better community.
  •  What would you say that is the greatest satisfaction of being a blogger?
Knowing that I have a place to voice my thoughts and that there are others who actually read that is the best feeling!
  • Anything else that you’d like to share with our readers?
Be patient and persevere, then you can succeed in anything.

Thank you creating a community for us bloggers to learn and grow. Thank you for giving me an opportunity to be featured here.
