There are a number of health insurance plans today in the market and for someone who is just thinking of getting insured for the first time, this can be quite overwhelming. Here is a brief description of the various individual health insurance plans available in the market today.

[1] Bajaj Allianz Individual Health Insurance- Bajaj Allianz offers the very best health insurance plan and there are several attractive features and benefits on offer. These include individual sum assured for every family member, cashless coverage across a large network of hospitals, coverage for pre and post hospitalization expenditure and more. The cashless coverage ranges between Rs. 1.5-50 lakhs. 

[2] Max Bupa: The policy has to be taken for a minimum of 90 days and there is no age bar to getting the policy. One can opt for amounts of Rs 1 to 5 lakhs, and Rs 10 lakhs for the Variant 1 Type and Rs 10 lakhs, Rs 12.5 lakhs for the Variant 2 Type. It is a lifetime policy and the policy also provides top up benefits if the insured had exhausted his or her base amount. The plan also provides Rs 7500 for OPD treatment. 

[3] Royal Sundaram: It is a Lifeline Supreme Plan. For children, the minimum age is 90 days and for adults the minimum age is 18 years. The sum insured could be Rs 5 lakhs, 10 lakhs, 15 lakhs, 20 lakhs and 50 lakhs. The plan also allows a refill of amount insured up to 100 percent if the sum insured is completely exhausted. The plan covers second opinion for diagnosis.

[4] Aditya Birla: This is a Diamond scheme and in age above 18 years, if diagnosed with cancer, the policy provides additional amount insured which is equal to the sum insured. If the sum insured is Rs 5 lakhs or more, then the policy holder will also be able to choose their preferred accommodation. 

[5] Religare: This is a NCB Super Premium policy. The policy should be taken for a minimum of 90 days, and there is no age bar. One can get lifelong coverage and the plan offers automatic recharge of the amount insured in case if previous claims exhaust the amount. The sum insured is increased up to 100% for every claim free year. It also covers routine visits to the hospitals and ambulance and air charges. 

[6] Star InsuranceIt is a family health Optima Insurance which has to be taken for a minimum of 16 days. The plan provides automatic top up in case of exhaustion of the base insurance and also covers children. 

[7] Cigna TTK: This is a Prohealth Plus Insurance. It has to be taken for a minimum of 91 days and the sum insured could be Rs 4.5 lakhs, Rs 5.5 lakhs, Rs 7.5 lakhs and Rs 10 lakhs. The plan comes with an enhanced sum insured and the restoration benefit is 100%. The plan also offers reimbursement of Rs 2,000 on an annual basis for outpatient or pharmacy expenses and also covers maternity expenses. 

[8] Apollo Munich:   This is an Optima Restore policy. The policy has to be taken for a minimum of 91 days and the maximum age for the policy to be taken is 65 years. The policy provides automatic restoration and there is assured annual benefits. For every claim free year, the plan offers a bonus from 50 percent to 100 percent.

[9] HDFC Ergo: This is a Health Suraksha Gold Plan. The minimum sum assured is Rs 3 lakhs and one can get lifelong coverage with this plan. It is also one of the best insurance companies in the market today which has less premium rates. 

[10] Star Senior Citizen Red Carpet:This is one of the best individual health insurances  meant for senior citizens alone and the minimum age in which one could opt for it is 60 years while the maximum age is 75 years. The plan covers outpatient charges and pre- existing illnesses are also covered after a waiting period of 365 days.
