College. That one word sounds intimidating and stressful. Yet it is a place that will give you the best moments of your life. For many, heading to college would be the first time away from the familiarity of home. You may battle homesickness and the stress to adapt into the new environment will kick in. There are many new aspects to get accustomed to, but nothing is more important than taking care of yourself through it all. Sometimes it may take a while for things to settle down and as you take your time, keeping these tips in consideration will help you ease into a balance.

Keep a Journal

It may be hard to get into the habit of writing every day, but it is a good habit to get into. Buy a journal and get yourself to jot down all your upcoming assignments and research works so that you can stay on track with what should be submitted. Ticking or crossing each assignment off once it is done will give you a sense of satisfaction. Try marking down the important moments too.

A Good Night’s Sleep

No matter how much work you may have to complete, nothing should compromise a 6-hour minimum sleep. It is important that you sleep adequately in order to function well the next day. Moreover, make sure to take a small break when you are studying. If possible take a power nap!

Get Involved

From time to time, you would need a break from all the studying. When this happens, the best thing to do would be signing up for a club or society. There is bound to be something that you would love to be a part of. This is also a great way to make new friends!

Do Not Compare Yourself

Never compare yourself to another student and put yourself down just because they may know an extra bit of information. Do not get frustrated at yourself. Learning is a long process and you are still in the process of learning many new things. Everyone has different learning styles and capabilities. Be proud of whatever it is that you know and motivate yourself.

Prioritize

One low grade is not going to affect your overall grade adversely. Some subjects may not be your best and that is completely okay. Do not stress. Always just try your best and you will be rewarded for the hard work. It might be of your best interest to start with tackling your toughest subject and leaving the relatively easier ones for after. This way, you will have sufficient time to study without feeling exhausted.

 Posters and Photographs

When you are feeling homesick, it is always calming to look at the photographs and posters that you have on your wall. Do not forget to carry these with you as you shift to your new living space. The familiar faces and pictures will help you settle in quicker.
