According to Psychology Today, one’s personality is so pervasive and all-important that it presents a clinical paradox of all sorts: it is hard to access our own personality, and impossible to overlook that of others.

Presently, personality is a term that is thrown around casually, albeit with different interpretations. It is used for social characteristics, qualities that make up an intellectual being or for physical appearance. But personality is what constitutes a person in the entirety and isn’t solely about the appearance, a trait or an ability.

Nevertheless, the result is that people are becoming increasingly conscious about what constitutes their ‘personality’ and are constantly looking for ways to dig deeper into their understanding of a personality.

Some brilliant minds have come forward to help us in this task. Here are four TED talks each less than 20 minutes that might prove helpful in your journey to enhancing and knowing yourselves:

1) HOW TO SPEAK UP FOR YOURSELF- ADAM GALINSKY

The focal point of this talk by Adam Galinsky is the range of acceptable behaviour, expanding which enables an individual to speak up. He highlights different tools that aid you in the process of asserting yourself and expanding your personal power, all of which play a major in role in moulding your personality.

2) IS THERE A REAL YOU- JULIAN BAGGINI

In his 12-minute long talk, Julian Baggini, a journalist and philosopher, presents models to support his argument that an individual doesn’t discover his true self; rather he constructs it. Baggini stresses on the ability humans possess to build themselves in a myriad of ways and encourages people to deem themselves as a process instead of a permanent state with an essence they are born with. This, he says, will make us capable to constantly work towards our self-development.

3) WHO ARE YOU, REALLY? THE PUZZLE OF PERSONALITY- BRIAN LITTLE

Brian Little, in an intriguing talk, presents the idea of how an individual is not always he seems to be. He accents that personalities are malleable and therefore every individual can transform himself for the better.

4) WHY YOU SHOULD TALK TO STRANGERS- KIO STARK

This talk presents a way of how to change your lifestyle which eventually changes your personality. Kio Stark encourages us to get past our comfort zone and talk to strangers as this process enables us to discard the notions that strangers are synonymous with danger. Additionally, it helps us form connections that open up new opportunities and introduces us to new ideas that come handy when looking to enhance your personality.
