Can you tell our readers about yourself and your blog?

I am essentially a writer, with an interest in styling and exploring places. My blog is a combination of the above three expressed with carefully curated written content with visually appealing images of my style and my travels.

Describe how did you first get involved into blogging? What inspired you to start your blog?

I have always had an inclination towards writing and also to understand fashion, not just in terms of what to wear, but textures, materials, drapes, etc. Thus, I decided to combine both these interests and started blogging.

What do you love most about blogging?

I am a freelance writer and write for other publications apart from my blog. So, the thing I love most about blogging is the freedom to express myself exactly the way I want to.

What is your blogging style and philosophy?

My blogging philosophy is to portray fashion as an experience, and represent it as more than just a superficial thing because it isn’t. Like everything else, every trend has a rich history behind it.

Who according to you should take up blogging as a full time career?

Jenna Lyons of J.Crew because she has impeccable style.

As a blogger, what aspects do you expect newbie bloggers to work upon?

Quality of their content and sticking to a niche instead of being all over the place.

Can you name some of your favorite bloggers and explain why they are your favorites?

One of my all time favourites is Negin Mirsalehi because she has been very consistent with her blog and also because she carries herself with an air of sophistication. Her work shows that she loves what she does and that blogging can be a successful career if you work hard enough.

What do you find the most frustrating aspect of blogging?

Sometimes it becomes hard to come up with new ideas. Also, reaching new audiences is always tough. Gaining a good social media presence is and has always been my biggest challenge.

Is blogging your profession or just a hobby?

It is my part time profession but I’m working towards making it my full time profession.

What do you do when you aren’t working on your blog?

I love to read all kinds of things, as it makes me a better writer. I also love to watch different kinds of movies to get to know about different ideas, creativity, cultures, imagination. Basically I love witnessing all sorts of creative expressions. It keeps me inspired.

How frequently do you update your blog and are you satisfied with it?

I update my blog every Friday but I want to increase the number of posts per week.

What is the biggest difference in your life post-blogging?

There is not much of a difference in my life yet, but, I do hope that some things change for the better.

Did you have any professional help or did you created the blog yourself?

I created my blog with the help of a lot of YouTube tutorials and a friend.

What’s your blog promotion strategy? How do you ensure you keep acquired new readers and how do you retain your existing readerbase?

I try to make my blog as relatable as possible and the various social media platforms play a key  role in retaining existing and acquiring new readers. Also, the correct brand associations.

What would you say that is the greatest satisfaction of being a blogger?

The greatest satisfaction comes when someone enjoys my blog or when it helps someone in some way. Do have a look at my blog, , maybe you’ll like it!

  1. great interview smriti. I think the problem that she mentioned about reaching new audiences and establishing a social media presence is faced by a lot of bloggers who are great writers but do not have any training with digital marketing, tech or product management. Every blogger needs to ensure that there are certain social features inbuilt in their blogs that motivate a person to like, share, tweet, pin the blogpost. Smriti Mamgain's blog also lacks these features. Another feedback especially for fashion bloggers would be that they should install the sumome plugin on their blog. If you roll your mouse over to any of the pics on, you will see three options appear on it > facebook it, tweet it and pinterest it. That feature is a no brainer for fashion bloggers and it is a must if you want social leverage.
